Summer Technician Entrance Program (STEP) Update!

STEP officially kicked off June 9th with 8 future technicians beginning their intensive 9 week training at the AISLansing Branch. The participants for STEP were chosen through an application process and their attendance at high school technical education and career programs relating to heavy equipment or truck repair and operation.

We are proud to announce our first group of STEP participants!

AIS received 19 applications from well-qualified students across Michigan. These applicants participated in high school diesel technical programs and 8 of these technicians were chosen to participate in AIS STEP; Trevor Schmitz of Pewamo, James Moreau of St. Johns, Jack Israel of Romeo, Michael Rocheleau of Grant, Rodney Hubbard of Howard City, Ken Noneman of Kalamazoo,  Josh Challender of Bath, and Mike Miller of White Lake.

The STEP is a nine week regimen held at AIS Construction Equipment in Lansing, MI. It consists of four to five days per week of instruction, troubleshooting, repairing, and operating heavy equipment of various makes and models.

The step program is designed to:

  • Better prepare the prospective technician for post-secondary schooling and work.
  • Provide an opportunity to work with the prospective technician to evaluate their potential.
  • Expose the potential technician to the conditions in a working AIS facility so they may better identify their future plans.
